Now published: three revised practice standards

The College has recently published three revised practice standards:

Charging for Uninsured Services

  • Combines the College’s previous Missed Appointments and Annual Fees to Patients professional guidelines which have now been archived
  • New sections have been added on setting reasonable fees, communicating fees, and combining insured and uninsured services

Medical Records, Data Stewardship and Confidentiality of Personal Health Information

  • New sections have been added on technology and transferring a copy of the medical record
  • Note: following the publication of this revised standard, the College has archived the Emailing Patient Information professional guideline and the Data Stewardship Framework

Sale and Dispensing of Drugs

  • Title: removed “by physicians”
  • Preamble: clarity added regarding which drugs the standard applies to
  • College’s position: outlines requirements for all registrants who wish to sell or dispense a drug to a patient as stated in the Medical Practitioners Regulation
  • Standards: a list of comprehensive standards have been outlined to address physicians’ requirements and ethical responsibilities when selling or dispensing drugs
