Maria Ezzati sentenced in contempt of court case for illegally injecting people with Botox and dermal fillers

On January 29, 2021, Ms. Maria Ezzati was sentenced in the Supreme Court of BC to six months in prison for contempt of court. Ms. Ezzati had admitted in August 2020 of being in contempt of court by injecting people with botulinum toxin (Botox) and dermal fillers. Ms. Ezzati was also ordered to pay the College’s special costs and a $15,000 fine. A portion of the fine will be paid to the College to reimburse people who received an injection from Ms. Ezzati.

Notification of Bylaw Amendments: Section 2-16

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC has posted a proposed amendment to its provisional Bylaws. Due to COVID-19, the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part II, College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) certification examinations were not offered at their scheduled times. In response, section 2-16 was amended on May 27, 2020 to add subsection (1)(f), which provides the registrar with discretion to waive the sponsorship and supervision requirements for provisional applicants who have completed a residency program in Canada in 2020 until the results are available from the next sitting of the MCCQE Part II and the CFPC or RCPSC certification examinations.
