Continuing Professional Development

As per section 2-5 of the College Bylaws under the Health Professions Act, all registrants must comply with requirements for continuing professional development (CPD), which requires the registrant to enrol in and be compliant with CPD expectations of either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (specialists), the College of Family Physicians of Canada (family practitioners), the Collège des médecins du Québec (physicians in Quebec), or the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (podiatric surgeons).

Podiatric surgeon registrants must complete 30 hours of continuing professional development per year in courses approved by the Registration Committee and provide proof of compliance every other year. The Continuing Competency Requirements for Podiatric Surgeons registration policy outlines the specific requirements.

Currently, physicians who do surgical assisting only (no pre and post-operative care) are exempt from the CPD requirement.
